Axe Making Weekend

Day 1 - You will arrive at base camp and after having a quick brew and introduction, plus of course our safety briefing, we will look at the history of axes and how they have evolved. We will have plenty of axes kicking around for you to look at different types, styles weights etc.

This course does not include forging your own axe head, however we will have a selection of axe heads for you to choose from. You will then learn how to select an appropriate piece of wood for making a handle. Once you have your own piece of wood you will then shape it using traditional hand tools, including draw knives, spoke shaves and shave horses to create the perfect handle for your axe.

After an overnight camp in our wood: Day 2 begins where you will learn how to sharpen and maintain your axe. Now you have crafted your own axe and sharpened it what better way to protect the cutting edge than making your very own made to measure leather axe mask? We will look at various mask designs and learn how to process the leather to create your personal axe mask.

This course is a full on two day experience with all materials provided and you should come away with a beautiful personal hand crafted axe and mask.

The price for this course is £110 per person as a special introductory offer:
